The Nagarjuna Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary located
in Andhra Pradesh has a total land area of 356,000 hectares.
This wildlife sanctuary also includes the Nagarjuna sagar-Srisailam
Tiger Reserve that is located in the catchment area of the
River Krishna.
This wildlife park is spread of five districts of Andhra
Pradesh, India. These areas include the Kurnool, Guntur, Prakasam,
Mahboobnagar and Nalgonda.
This huge wildlife sanctuary is surrounded by the Nallamalai
Hills on the south and is flanked by the River Krishna on
the East.
This wildlife park is covered by dry tropical deciduous
forests and the vegetation here consists of scrub jungles,
thorn forests, deciduous trees, herbs and marsh vegetation.
A few rare species of flora are also found in this region
that include Pterolobium indicum, Niebuhria apetala and Ziziphus
xylopyrus.
Some of the inhabitants of the Nagarjuna Sagar Wildlife
Sanctuary are bonnet macaque, leopard, tiger, wolf, jackal,
langur, jungle cat, Bengal fox, wild dog, sloth bear, palm
civet, smooth-coated otter, Indian spotted chevrotain, striped
hyena, Indian muntjac, wild boar, sambar, blackbuck, chinkara,
spotted deer, nilgai, four-horned antelope, Indian pangolin,
marsh crocodile, Indian tree shrew, monitor lizard, Indian
soft-shelled turtle, giant flying squirrel and Indian porcupine.
There are more than 150 species of birds at the Nagarjuna
Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary in Andhra Pradesh, India. Some of
the commonly sighted birds are the peafowl grey and the hornbill.
